The Moon

by Laura

The air starts to feel colder, the breeze picks up, you look up and there it is: the biggest, brightest moon you have ever seen. The yellow colors emanate from it and fill the sky with light. It almost seems to reflect back onto you, letting all the stress from the day cast out of you and you fill yourself up on this image. It is so peaceful. The moon is the gateway drug to nature. You see it so close to you and beautiful and then start to notice the leaves changing color and covering the green grass as they fall. You start to notice wildlife around you, as you hear the chirping and rustling from the bushes. All is quiet besides life around you, coming out, finally being noticed. Sitting in a circle, in the middle of the woods, the beauty seems to hypnotize you and it is a trance you love to be in. Even after all the distractions, you look up and it is still there, beaming back down. It is almost as if we are the beauty in the moon’s eyes, for it stares right back at us. The spell is captivating and addictive. As time goes on and the moon begins to rise higher, so does the day, moving further from you, no longer a stress to be dealt with. However, the magnificence of it stays with you, lingering over you. You know you will see it again because now you are hooked on it, seeking more. Today is over and tomorrow is just another day away.

This is the best line: "The moon is the gateway drug to nature." That is profound and original and amazing. So good!
