Fall Poems

Contemplative

Sinister leaves reflecting on a water canvas

One side of the pond clear

And the other side reflected with scarlet leaves

The chance to glide across and start anew

Anew

Wind sweeps away what’s left of the year

Brushing across your face

Removing stereotypes and masks built up

Everything gone leaves the chance to rebuild

Rebuild

Nothing there, nothing to confuse

Just falling inside yourself as the leaves twirl around you

Thinking trying testing flipping twirling leaves around your head

Contemplating how to rebuild yourself anew.

Eraser

When you mess up, you erase

Why can’t life itself be so easy?

Nature’s eraser is slipped in fall

Without it life can end up queasy

After a year of missing the mark

Followed with frantic scribbling out

And pilings of pencil building up dark

No idea of what you’re writing about,

You come across that pink tip

It was forgotten in all the mess

The chance to forget the whole trip

And finish with many a mark less

Fall is that eraser, that surprise panacea

Your life can flip and fall towards a new idea

Falling

Fall is

Falling is

Falling away from summer misconceptions

Images blurred in humid mirages of air

Falling out of things that seem right

But are really just misconstrued

Fall purifies

Fall sweeps away the humid lies

And brings about crisp cleanliness

Crisp truth

Bringing about new found paths

Summoning up the strength to change

Leaves blowing up in tornadoes

Spinning twirling and blowing away

Taking away old rotten things

And leaving cold pure clean air

Blank empty trees and skies

Waiting to be painted on anew

The end of that perfect fall day

With watercolor brushed across the sky

Brings that feeling of change and ecstasy

Hope and belief in new better things to come old falling away

Falling into something new

Continuum

The season of death some say,

Trees shedding what’s left of their leaves

Leaves falling, rotting in their coma

Animals burrowing away

Geese fleeing the coming cold

Summer warmth farther away

Yet somehow in the midst of this

There are breathtaking sunsets,

Pinks strewn across the sky

Rosy as the tip of your chilled nose

Reds deep as the smoldering maples

Changing your mind about the season of death

For this is not an end but a continuum,

It reminds and nudges us to live

Reminds us to get out of our mindless patterns

Reminds us to strive and reach

Trees shedding what’s left of their leaves

Leaving a clearer farther view than ever before

Grabbing at our hearts and minds

Pulling us to live, really live until we die

And others continue
