Autumn

Ben Harrington

Comp 11

Descriptive Essay

The breeze is cool, but not unpleasantly so. The soft morning sun is warm on my face, and I look around and marvel at the beauty of nature. The grass is still a deep green, and it ripples as the wind passes through it. The tall pines stand high and proud, while the maples and oaks beneath them have begun to blush the color of the season. Some are dark red, and others, vivid yellow. The leaves hum delicately in the easy wind, while the birds sing to the world from within their depths.

Autumn does not bring the oppressive heat and humidity of summer. It does not bring the biting dry cold of winter. It does not bring the torrents of rain that force us inside and make our basements overflow in spring. Rather, it is the perfect blend of cool warmth, soft sunlight and gentle wind that combine to make autumn the perfect season.
